England powered to another formidable total against South Africa, making 318-8 in the third one-day international on Tuesday as it seeks to seal a series victory.
Joe Root hit an ODI career-best 125, opener Alex Hales made 65 and Ben Stokes was in typically brutal form down the order to smash 53 from 37 balls.
England won the first two games and needs to win just one of the last three for an ODI series victory to follow its success in the test series.
Root and Hales set England up for its big total at SuperSport Park with their partnership of 125 off 125 balls for the second wicket.
Root was run out after a big mix-up with Stokes, but Stokes went on to hit five fours and two sixes at the end to push England past 300 for the second time in three games this series.
Seamers Kyle Abbott and Kagiso Rabada had two wickets each for South Africa, but the home team is facing another series defeat.
England posted the eighth highest total in one-dayers at SuperSport Park, and the Proteas need the highest score ever batting second to win and keep the series alive. Root, as he was in the test series, was in sublime form, with 10 fours and five sixes to drive England's batting effort.
He fell in unfortunate fashion when a straight drive rebounded off the stumps at the bowler's end, and he and Stokes were caught in the middle of the pitch, undecided over whether to take a run. The bails came off at Root's end and he had to go. Stokes kept up the attack, though, and David Willey and Adil Rashid also added useful runs in the final overs.
