Rio would be my last Olympics: Shshil

Sushil Kumar is going to say good bye to the Olympics post 2016 edition in Rio, the two-time Olympic medallist wrestler said on Tuesday adding that he would take a final call on the retirement post quadrennial event.

Sushil, who is recovering from a collarbone injury that ruled him out of the upcoming World Championships, said he is just three weeks away from returning to the mat.

“2016 Olympics in Rio will be my final appearance as far as Olympics are concerned. While I have not yet thought about my retirement, I will take a call after the Rio Games are over.

“My guruji Satpal ji told me that we would be taking a call after the Rio Olympics and whatever he says, I will follow it,” london Olympics silver medallist said on the sidelines of selection trials for Worlds.

Sushil had his neck tapped as he witnessed fellow wrestlers in action at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on Tuesday. However that didn’t stop him from sharing words of encouragement for Narsingh Yadav, who contests in the same weight category as him — 74kg. And Narsingh didn’t disappoint. “My first focus right now is to see Narsingh qualify. The entire team is great and they would do well at the Championship,” he stated.
