Dilli Veer’s wrestler Dinesh Kumar is not worried about facing star Indian contingent Sushil Kumar in the 74 kilogram category during the Pro Wrestling league which takes place from 10- 27 December.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil was bought by Uttar Pradesh in the wrestling league auction last month and will represent his team in the 74kg category. Delhi’s Dinesh will also be competing in the same category but the Haryana lad is ready for the challenge.
“Sushil is one of India’s best wrestlers, but I am not worried about facing him,” Dinesh said on the sidelines of his team’s logo launch by GMR group here on Tuesday.
“I will do my best from what I have learned and will give my best and hopefully look for an upset.”
Dinesh, who started wrestling at the age of 16, is looking to perfect himself and be prepared when the league kickstarts on 10th December.
Vinesh Phogat (48kg) is aiming for nothing less than the championship in the first edition of the wrestling league.
“We are targeting the championship and we want to win it. The camp will start on third December and we will look to be well prepared for the wrestling league,” she explained.
Vinesh also sets her sight on qualifying for next years Rio Olympics, in Brazil although the qualifying events won’t take place atleast till March.
The Haryana wrestler is also excited about the challenge which is awaiting her in the inaugural edition of PWl.
“Previously, the matches used to be an individual representation, but now in this league we all get to play as a team and fight for each other,” she added.
She also wants to do everything possible to improve the league’s popularity in the country. “We want to make wrestling league as the best in the country,” she added further.
The teams coach Sujeet Mann is satisfied with the squad he has at his disposal and is confident about their chances. “We are confident that we have beaters in every category of our team and they are capable of doing well against any opponent,” he explained.
Earlier the capital side’s logo was launched in an event here on Tuesday. The logo takes it’s inspiration from a shield, Sahasra chakra and not to mention the oldest combat sport — wrestling.
