Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska won the Pan-Pacific Open title for the second time with a dominating 6-2, 6-2 victory over Belinda Bencic of Switzerland on Sunday.
The win by Radwanska - her first title since the Rogers Cup in Montreal last year - helped the seventh-seeded Pole gain revenge for her defeat by the 18-year-old Swiss in this year's Eastbourne final.
The 26-year-old Radwanska also took the Pan-Pacific in 2011, and is the first player to have won the event twice since it moved outdoors, and on to a hard court, in 2008.
Radwanska, who moves from 13th to eighth in the world rankings with Sunday's title, won eight games in a row to lead 6-2, 4-0.
"This is the first tournament I have won twice, so it's very special for me," said a tearful Radwanska, a Wimbledon semifinalist this year.
"I really didn't expect that kind of score against Belinda, she's playing so well. I'm never going to be a powerful tennis player, even if I spend the whole day in the gym. That's the way I play, trying to find a way to beat those stronger players."
Bencic has enjoyed a breakthrough season, winning in Eastbourne and Toronto, including a victory in Canada over Serena Williams in the semifinals.
Bencic also beat top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki in their semifinal on Saturday, and the Swiss said she was feeling the effects of that match.
"Agnieszka made me run a lot and my serves were so slow today because, after yesterday, I couldn't do anything with my legs anymore," Bencic said.
lucic-Baroni beats Stosur
China: Mirjana lucic-Baroni of Croatia beat former U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday in the opening round of the Wuhan Open.
The 85th-ranked lucic-Baroni saved all four break points and wrapped up the match in just under an hour against her 22nd-ranked opponent. Stosur won the U.S. Open in 2011 and also made the final of the French Open in 2010.
Also, American Varvara lepchenko was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Zheng Saisai of China. The 46th-ranked lepchenko, who has yet to win a WTA title, saved four of six break points.
Qualifier Johanna Konta of Britain ousted 13th-seeded Andrea Petkovic of Germany in straight sets while Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, Elina Svitolina of Ukraine and Coco Vandeweghe of the United States also advanced to the second round.
Maria Sharapova, who has not played since her semifinal loss to Serena Williams at Wimbledon due to a leg injury, is in the Wuhan Open on a wild card.
Sharapova has got a bye and is due to play Czech player Barbora Strycova in the second round.
