Pak security officials rehearse for Zim tour

Hundreds of Pakistani policemen featured in a dress rehearsal on Saturday to provide security for a planned visit by Zimbabwe’s cricket team to lahore.

On Saturday, two blue-colored team buses were shown surrounded by at least a dozen police vans in television footage from Allama Iqbal International Airport where Zimbabwe is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

Dozens of police officials monitored security arrangements at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Geo Television said that at least 3,000 policemen will be inside the 27,000-seat stadium during the matches.

Two helipads — one close to Gaddafi Stadium and another near the team hotel — will also be built in case of emergency.

‘Proposed T20 league risky’

Melbourne: The T20 league mooted by Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne could be a risky proposition, feels Warne’s manager James Erskine. Tendulkar and Warne have reportedly offered 28 former players contracts worth $25,000 a match for the proposed league planned in at least three US cities.

Erskine said he remembers having a discussion on the league with Warne but he is not aware of the specifics.

Erskine feels there could be a market for this league featuring former greats but he was not sure about the commercial viability of the tournament.

KP laments lack of ‘clean slate’

london: Kevin Pietersen again indicated he’d been misled about the possibility of an international comeback when he said on Saturday he had been offered a “clean slate” by incoming England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves.

Pietersen’s argument was not that he’d been “promised” anything, but rather that if he met certain conditions he would at least be considered.

And on Saturday, Pietersen said: “Exactly — no one is guaranteed selection. I was told there was a ClEAN SlATE. I wanted to earn my place back.”

In the midst of the row, England also found themselves trying to explain the non-attendance of Stuart Broad at a press conference organised by a sponsor.

Broad cited illness for his failure to turn up. However, a report in Daily Mail suggested Broad’s absence was down to his being on a drinking spree involving Andrew Flintoff and Matt Prior that meant the bowler didn’t return to his hotel until 7:00am.
