After a 2014 season with a single Grand Slam (Wimbledon), Novak Djokovic went three times better in 2015. The Serb dominated the year by winning the Australian Open, retained his Wimbledon crown and won the US Open. He was ahead of everyone by a considerable margin. The only time he did get dominated was at the French Open — a Slam he is yet to win.
In the ATP Tournaments, Djokovic won six of eight finals he reached in Masters 1000 events and ended the year with the ATP World Tour Finals trophy. With a win-loss record of 82-6 in 2015, Djokovic added $21 million to his bank account — the highest so far in a calendar year.
Kyrgios’ schoolboy slegding and ‘tanking’
low
Up until 2014, Nick Kyrgios' claim to fame was a quarterfinal finish at 2014 Wimbledon where he beat Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet en route. In 2015, he added another quarterfinal finish at home slam of Australian Open, reached the final of Estoril Open and ended the year in the top 30.
But he would be remembered for none of that. The Aussie directed an unnecessary and vile jab at Stanislas Wawrinka in Montreal. During a changeover, Kyrgios mumbled, "(Thanasi) Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend, sorry to tell you that mate". While Wawrinka didn't pick it up during the match, the on-court microphones did and it was all over the social media by the time the match got over. ATP didn't take this sitting down and fined him $10,000 and a reprimand.
The 20-year-old was accused of tanking against Gasquet at Wimbledon after he stopped putting in an effort to return serves. In the post-match press conference, he denied that he stopped trying despite repeated questions.
