Cheteshwar Pujara on Tuesday asserted that there were no technical flaws in his game and his stint with Yorkshire has prepared him mentally for modern-day cricket demands.
Pujara lost place in the playing XI in the Indian Test side after a below par show in England and Australia Test series and has been struggling to regain his spot. Experts had opined that Pujara had technical flaws in his game and that’s why he struggled to perform in overseas conditions.
“Having played in Yorkshire is definitely going to help me because the conditions are challenging,” Pujara said ahead of the match. “Technically you need to be correct and concentration level has to be up to the mark to score runs over there. There is nothing major that I’ve changed in my technique. It is more about mental preparation and correcting a few things which will help me. It was just a phase that I’ve not scored many runs,” he added.
“Overall, if you see my career, I’ve scored runs with the same technique. There’s nothing wrong with my technique and I just need to stick to what I know.”
Pujara is confident that he will be able to score in the new assignment. “I want to score runs and help the team. Here, I’ve added responsibility of leading the team and guiding the players. I’ve been batting well in the nets and I hope I’ll be able to score some runs in the game.” Asked if he feels pressure to make a comeback for India, Pujara said, “As a cricketer whether I’m in playing eleven or not, I’ve to improve. To be in playing eleven is not in my hands. What I’m going to do is to improve my game. Ultimately, I will get my opportunities. I just need to be patient.”
