My focus is on improving my game not selection: Ajinkya Rahane
Published on:

After a good show in the ClT20, how hopeful are you of getting another chance to represent IndiaIJ

As l always say, I'm just focusing on my process and my hard work. And I'm ready for the opportunity should it come my way. Playing for India is an honour and always will be.

You have been in and out of the Indian team. What impact has it on youIJ How do you handle itIJ

Selection is not in my hand. I'm a positive person. I always look to work and improve my game. I just focus on my hardwork. It is a constant learning process and I look to improve my game everyday. These are the things which I can control. Other things will follow automatically.

Rajasthan Royals showed good consistency at home. What was the reason behind thatIJ

The team culture is very strong in the Rajasthan Royals. We enjoy each other's success, and give confidence to one another to play well. And of course, the fan support we get at home is tremendous. All of these factors work to our advantage.

The way Royals performed in ClT20, it seemed the fixing scandal has brought the players closer.

It was a tough time for us, but under the leadership of Dravid and Paddy, the team really came together and fought hard to overcome it. Clearly, they helped us not only bond but also perform.

You have always performed well for Rajasthan Royals. What is so special thereIJ

Rajasthan Royals is a special team, they work like a family. They have supported me a lot, and each time have expressed confidence in my batting, which has helped me to go out there and perform well in the middle. I am very thankful to them.

What is your role in Rajasthan Royals and how is it similar or different from when you represent IndiaIJ

My role with the Rajasthan Royals is simple. I am expected to bat like I always do and play my natural game. I have also learnt a lot from Rahul bhai (Dravid), and this has been his advance to me too.

You have often talked about Rahul Dravid's influence on you. He is your captain in Rajasthan Royals. What kind of conversations do you have with himIJ

He told me to express myself in the middle, to play my natural game and back my ability. He is a true legend, and his achievements in cricket are immense. There is much to learn from somebody like him, and the sheer experience of being in the same squad as him is invaluable.

How are you preparing yourself for the upcoming domestic seasonIJ

As I said before. I'm not thinking about selection. I'm just working on my game and look to improve everyday.
