Not so brilliant orange, a clouded azure and the ‘chili’ that lost its heat

Italy

This was the first time for Italy not to make it in the FIFA World Cup. The 3-0 loss in Madrid was a dramatic turning point. There football association is led by incompetent officials who are keen to bow to top clubs' demands and were not able to draw a proper long-term map for the team. The choice of manager was an outcome of this.  Ventura is a small player amongst the other Italian coaches also his main flaw was a stubborn adherence to his old-school tactical creed.

Netherlands

Replacing Guus Hiddink with Danny Blind was one of the reasons he also failed to guide the Dutch in 2016 Euros. The 2-0 defeat in Sofia against a poor Bulgaria side was one event which was a turning point. That game in Sofia and he was a goner four games into the campaign despite winning last three games. They need to start from the youth teams onwards, and focus more on the physical side of modern day football.

Chile

Many arguments can be given but the departure of coach Jorge Sampaoli clearly jeopardised their chances. His replacement, Juan Antonio Pizzi, managed to win the Copa América Centenario in 2016 but the team had clearly lost its chemistry. They didn't pick up a single point from their games against Paraguay and Bolivia, but instead managed to lose to Bolivia away for the first time since 2000. After losing to brazil 3-0 elimination became official but the loss had been done.

Usa

Many reasons can be stated for their defeat. They almost made it and then fell down. The problem has been around for many cycles and only now have they finally paid for it.  They were slow and lethargic in away fixtures with poor defending throughout the tournament. If players like Dos Santos had been integrated into the squad sooner the US would never have been in such a bad situation. lack of preparations was, a crucial factor that conspired for the team’s failures. The US national team’s youth system definitelt needs some changes to produce new young players.

Ghana

Ghana wwere in terrible home form and were not able to win any games out of three at their home field, which is unacceptable and is the reason for their stay. Players are getting older and they have lost the spine to drive the winning spirit. Almost everyone was out of form in the clubs as well as the national team. Ghana needs new talents in the team for which the football association and ministry of sports need to cooperate. They have been feuding for a long time now and that led to a slashing of funding for the national team.

Wales

Gareth Bale — the man who left the world agape with a spectacular chilena kick in the Champions league semi-final will not be going to Russia owing to Wales’ failure to qualify for the World Cup. The team was in a statee of crisis as some of its best players including Bale were shadowed with injury. Complacency also proved to be fatal for the Welsh side who almost looked promising enough to make it through the qualification fray and grab a slot in the World Cup.
