Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said on Tuesday that the shock defeat to New Zealand will be a wake-up call for India who must win all the matches from here on.

Putting up a brave front he said, "We have turned around from similar situations in the past and would do so this time too."

Addressing the media in the post-match conference, he blamed his batting department for the humiliating defeat saying soft dismissals, lack of partnerships and wrong shot selections translated into defeat.

"I think it was a low scoring wicket. I thought we restricted them to a good total, but the batting let us down. The shot selection kept putting pressure on the batsmen coming in," Dhoni said.

He conceded that the Kiwis bowled well but said it was more about India's soft dismissals than about their bowling acumen. "They (New Zealand) bowled well, exploited the conditions, but we lacked adaptability, we could have applied ourselves a little more. The batting let us down," a disappointed Dhoni said.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was, meanwhile, pleased with the fighting spirit his team showed agains t title favourites India, that too in their home zone.

"I am very pleased. It was a tough surface. With the bat whatever score was going to be tough, we would have liked to have a few more. We wanted to be aggressive at the start, the format dictates that, we may reflect on that though and try and do it better (on selection)," he said.

"The message to the bowling attack was to be patient and apply pressure and we did that well," he added.
