Marin hungry for more

Despite achieving everything a player wants at the precocious age of 23, badminton superstar Carolina Marin is seeking more success in coming months.

"It is most difficult to stay at the top. I want to get more titles. I want to repeat the performance at All England, World Championship, European Championship and win some more Super Series titles," said Marin at a press conference here on Tuesday.

The Olympic champion is also aware of the challenges awaiting her. "I feel all the top 10 players are of the same level and we can defeat each other any day but I can feel now that since I am number one, everyone wants to defeat me. My motivation was to be number one. So it's always hard work to stay at No. 1."

She also feels that playing in the Premier Badminton league is lot harder as she is not alone playing for herself but also for the team.

"It is very different. This is the most difficult format because I am not just playing for myself, as is the case in Superseries, but for the whole team. So, there is a lot of pressure," Marin said.

Meanwhile, Fernando Rivas, the coach of Marin as well as of the Hyderabad Hunters team, talked about his experience of overseeing the Spaniard's growth as a badminton player. "I saw a potential champion when I saw her as a 13-year-old. We got lucky that her parents allowed her to go to national centre and I could shape her according to my coaching philosophy. I always believed that we can deliver,” he said.
