When Board of Control for Cricket in India appointed Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS laxman in its Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), one name was conspicuous by its absence.
Rahul Dravid, who formed the famous ‘Fab Four’ of Indian cricket along with the above three, was missing from the CAC which will advise the BCCI on all cricketing matters. Dravid is one of the most respected figures in India’s cricketing fraternity and Virat Kohli, India’s newly appointed Test captain, is among his fans.
During a promotional event in Delhi on Thursday, Kohli said, “It would have been amazing if the ‘Fab-4’ constituted the committee but unfortunately that’s not the case. I cannot speak on behalf of Dravid but I am a little disappointed that he is not a part of it.”
Many questions and eyebrows were raised when Dravid’s name was missing from the CAC but the BCCI has assured that Dravid’s “services would be sought at an appropriate time.” According to the reports BCCI might offer him a job with the under-19 cricket team.
The 26-year old Kohli further said that having these three (laxman, Tendulkar and Sourav) is the perfect situation for the team and they will look to make the most of it.
“If one has played cricket, these three names were synonyms for the game and kids have grown up watching these legends. I am sure that we as a team and as well as individually will have a lot to learn from these legends of the game.”
Recently, Ravi Shastri was given an extension on his contract to continue his role as team director for the upcoming tour to Bangladesh. Kohli believes that Shastri’s appointment is a big morale boost for the team.
“We are happy that he is on board with us. Just to have him around is a big boost. As long as he wants to continue, it would be beneficial for the team. He is a man who has played cricket on his own terms and condition throughout his career.
“He always brings confidence and self-belief in the dressing room. The team is happy to have him back again,” Kohli said.
Kohli, who took over the Test captaincy after MS Dhoni’s retirement late last year, has some immediate goals as well as a long-term vision for the team. His main focus will be that the team plays good brand of cricket. He wants to create strong bond and friendship between the players.
“There should not be any kind of hesitation between the players. I want each and everyone to contribute in best possible way and help the team to perform better in future.” he signed off.
