Kyrgios' cheap shot at Stan

Nick Kyrgios made headlines for all the wrong reasons for sledging Stan Wawrinka earlier in the year. In April, Kyrgios lost his temper after losing the first set in the second round of Rogers Cup and told Stan — "[Thanasi] Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that mate." Kyrgios was referring to Australian colleague Thanasi Kokkinakis and 19-year-old Croatian player Donna Vekic, who has reportedly been dating Wawrinka. Kyrgios won the game after the French Open champion Stan was retired hurt in the final set. But, the match made all the news for the Australian's outrageous reaction and he received serious flak from fans as well as former and present players. That incident earned him a $10,000 fine by ATP. And, ATP followed up its initial $10,000 fine with a reprimand of another $25,000 payment plus a 28-day ban if the Australian errs again in the next six months. The sanctions will be imposed if the Australian is fined for verbal or physical abuse, or if he incurs more than $5,000 in fines for any other reason. Kyrgios later admitted that he has copped what he deserved for sledging Wawrinka.
