Kohli's hunger pleases Kirsten

Indian World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten feels that skipper Virat Kohli's consistent efforts of learning and improving his game makes him one of the greatest players of the cricketing world.

"He is a great player. He continues to improve and get better. I enjoy working with him because he continually wants to learn about the game and all the great players do that," Kirsten said.

Kirsten, who coached India from 2008-11 and bid adieu after the 2011 World Cup victory, is currently working with Kohli as assistant coach of the Indian Premier league side's Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The former South African opener, who came for scouting camp in Delhi on Thursday, also backed Kohli's decision of playing county cricket to get used to the conditions ahead of the England tour.

"It is good for him to prepare (for the Eng tour). For any player preparation is good," he said.

Kohli had a terrible outing the last time when India toured England in 2012. The star batsman failed to make his presence felt and was only able to manage 138 runs from eight innings.

The former South African coach also expects that the upcoming five-match Test battle between India-England series will be fought keenly.

Talking about growing craze for T20s among youngsters, Kirsten says that though the shortest version of the game appeals to the younger generation, the longest format (Test) will always have a place in the cricketing world.

"I enjoy T20 cricket. It really appeals to the younger generation. It's very entertaining. My kids enjoy watching T20 cricket more than anything else.
