Jadeja's strategy: Bowl wicket to wicket, give no room

Published on:

Ravinder Jadeja (3/56) brought India back into the game after a wicket-less pre-lunch session by dismissing David Warner and Michael Clarke in successive deliveries. He has dismissed Clarke on four occasions in this series so far but refuses to call him his bunny.

On dismissing Clarke for the fourth time

It’s not as if I want to dismiss him only. It’s just that whenever I have the ball he is there. It has happened four times in this series. I am feeling good about it and it’s a very important wicket for the team because when he scores, he scores big. So it is important to send him back as quickly as possible.

On what a spinner has to do while bowling on this pitch

This pitch doesn’t have as much turn as we saw in Hyderabad or Chennai. And it was the first day also. It was playing good for the batsmen. But I always look to bowl more and more balls in the stumps line and provide no room to the batsmen.

On the game plan

Plan was to bat first after winning the toss because pitch is playing good. Spinners are getting help but not as much as they should have got. It would have been better if we had batted first. We would have tried to score big and get the opposition out twice.

On team’s morale after a wicket-less first session

We were fine as there weren’t many runs on the board. They scored only 109 runs in 35 overs. We all were waiting for the first break. We didn’t want to give many runs just because wickets weren’t falling. We didn’t give away many runs in the first session though we didn’t get any wicket. However, we covered that in the next two sessions.

On the possibility of a result

We will try to get them out early tomorrow. Then try and post a big total on the board. After that, may be on the third day, we will see what’s the position of the game and then plan accordingly.
