From pinch hitting to deadly slow balling, from catchy dance celebrations mid-field to rocking music, DJ Bravo is a complete entertainer. The Trinidad & Tobago all-rounder tells KARTHIK RAMAN why he is upbeat about his team’s chances, how Windies plan to tackle the giant stage and how he is going to rock the world with the launch of his official World Cup anthem ‘Champion’
On Sunday, West Indies stunned Australia in a warm-up match to get their WT20 preparations going in style. How satisfied were you with that performanceIJ
The last game was very good. We were in the fight right through it. Darren Sammy (50 not out) played really well. It will give us confidence ahead of our game against England on March 16.
You in particular had a very good game with a great spell of 4/21. How satisfied were you with your bowlingIJ
It was good. Prior to coming to India, we were in Dubai, where my all-round cricket has been good and I have been bowling well there. So I am happy to collectively do well for the team.
What is the realistic target for your team going into the T20 World CupIJ
We will take it one game at a time, rather than setting up a specific target.
Are you confident that the present group of West Indies players has what it takes to replicate the 2012 gloryIJ
Yes, we have a good team and we can repeat it again.
How big a blow it is to not have Keiran Pollard and Sunil Narine in the squadIJ
It is a big blow for us. But we have players who can come in and get us going.
Do you think the experience of playing in the IPl will help you as well as your teammates to get adjusted to Indian pitchesIJ
Yeah. Playing in IPl will help us perform well in sub-continent wickets. But, it is also the same for other players from different countries as many have been playing in the IPl.
How excited are you about the launch of your anthem 'Champion' in partnership with VEGA Entertainment in Mumbai on MondayIJ
I am very excited. It is something new and different that I have done. The beats, the lyrics and the music and the dance are all my own.
What is the main theme of the songIJ
The song is about remaining positive and about the people who inspired me.
When and how did your love for music beginIJ
It came from Trinidad and Tobago, where music is a big part of our lives.
