Shane Watson is a happy man these days and that shine in his blue eyes confirms that.
Rajasthan Royals’ good run so far might be a reason for that, but ask him about his new-born son and you get to know who is the real source of his joy. With Watson’s wife and his soon-to-be two months son having joined him here a week back, the Aussie is a true picture of a proud new dad.
“He was just six weeks when they took the flight,” Watson said of wife lee Furlong and son Will.
“It’s been amazing. He provides a lot of joy in my life.
“It’s one of the most special things in my life I want to help him develop as a much better person than me. I love being part of Rajasthan Royals and this environment but it’s a great amount of fun even thinking about going home and spending some time with him,” added the Australian all-rounder, who then saved no word in crediting Royals’ success to Rahul Dravid and his leadership and work ethics.
“I am happy with my performance. I am pretty content. Rahul is batting extra-ordinarily; he certainly has a long-long way to go in his career the way he is batting at the moment. I think just about the world cricket would never thought that he could take down bowlers like he has, it’s been amazing to watch him,” Watson said of the former India skipper, who hit his second consecutive 50 and his fourth of the edition in Tuesday’s win against Delhi Daredevils.
Daredevils’ Australian recruit Ben Rohrer, who tied the knot on Sunday, and was his side’s highest scorer concurred. “Their (Royals’) batsmen played very well. They (Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane) are world class players. When guys like these get going, it’s difficult to stop them,” he said.
Watson continued. “Rahul as a person is one of the most amazing people that I have met in my life. He was always going to do an amazing job as a captain certainly,” he said, looking and sounding completely in awe of his skipper. “He has got utmost respect from all the players, from all the support staff. He is doing an amazing job.
“We are very close to play-offs. We have been playing very good cricket at the moment. But we still need to finish it off strongly.”
