Young Indian tennis players need to move to Europe to face tougher competition and learn more than what they do by staying in the country.
That’s the advice by Champions Tennis league franchise Delhi Dreams’ legend Juan Carlos Ferrero (in pic). Speaking after the capital team’s 27-19 win over the Mumbai Tennis Masters on Tuesday, the former No 1 said, “First of all they have to try to enjoy this tournament and see how the top players practice, live, prepare for the matches. I think they have to practice a lot and try going to Europe for better exposure and play with the best. If you only play here, it is difficult to go to the next level.”
Sergi Bruguera representing Mumbai and a former French Open winner echoed his thoughts and added that the young players should keep their ears open for any bit of advice they can pick up on the court during a match at the on-going competition.
“Now they should learn and get the experience with the top players, practice a little bit and as days go on when we’ve played more, it would be easier to advice on techniques, shots and tactics. But, now, just enjoy and keep listening for things which could be useful for them,” he said. Ferrero outplayed his Spanish compatriot 6-2 in the legend’s singles match on the day.
