India's number one squash player Saurav Ghosal feels it is important to have more academies like the Indian squash academy, Chennai, throughout the country and thereby have a system in place to produce more and more top level players.
When asked whether it is essential to have similar academies around the country, Ghosal, without any hesitation quickly replied, "Of course. More the number of places like Chennai academy, the higher the probability for top level players to be produced.
"That is definitely something that the national federation needs to plan for. It is kind of important that we have atleast one in major cities all around the country," he added.
The World No 27 elaborated in further what makes the academy in the Tamil Nadu capital to be the stand out one in the nation.
"Infrastructure is the best in the country. They got good battery of coaches over there. They have a system in place. It's very important to be able to not necessary replicate that but to have a system in place everywhere," he explained.
The 31-year-old is maintaining sufficient gap between each tournament to make sure he is in the best possible shape for next year's Commonwealth Games.
"I'm making sure I will be playing maximum two (tournaments) in one go and not three in one go. So if I go playing all then I won't be physically as I want to be and mentally as I want to be when the Games come around," he added.
He is also desperate to overcome last CWG short-comings. "You work hard, you plan everything. I did everything I could last time around but unfortunately I lost in the semis and I couldn't win the medal. Hopefully next year I will and then I will be four years older but four years more experienced as well," he elaborated.
Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa were present as the HCl 74th National Squash Championship was launched here on Tuesday.
Both the men's and women's winner will pocket Rs 1.5 lakh each. The championship will see a record participation of 550 players with 313 entries in men's singles and 65 in women's singles.
The event, to be played at the campus of Shiv Nadar University, will be held from 23rd-26th of this month.
On playing in the nationals, Joshna said: "I do enjoy playing in domestic circuit and I wish I could play more domestics matches but because of my professional commitment I'm not able to do it. As long as I keep playing, I would like to play in the nationals."
On her chemistry with Dipika Pallikal, Chinappa said: "We played the doubles at World doubles squash championship two weeks back in Manchester and we won a bronze. Actually we could have gone higher, but we were unlucky, but we played really well together.
"We both know we have a big year coming up next year. We have Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and Asian Championship next year. We are focusing on trying to strengthen. I also train with Dipika. We work on the same court."
Meanwhile, defending champion Dipika Pallikal will be pulling out of the National Squash Championship owing to an ankle strain.
