Says MC Mary Kom, boxer vows to fight back ahead of Asian Games next month

More than statistics, Mary Kom’s career probably has been glorified to a greater height by her sheer fighting ability, determination to overcome challenges both on and off the ring and steely resolve.

But now the at the age of 31 and giving birth to three kids, the five-time world champion faces one of the biggest test of her career.

Having lost to a youngster Pinki Jangra in the national trials for the Commonwealth Games 2014, a test of character awaits Mary as she gears up for the trials for the Asian Games. And Mary is as always ready.

“I am ever-ready for the trails any time whenever - today or tomorrow, my job is to compete,” Mary said, in her reaction to the national selection competition which was postponed at the last minute on the requests of the CWG medal winners.

“I was very hurt when I came to know that the trials have been postponed. What surprised me was that they didn’t even bother to inform me till the last minute. Is that what I deserve having brought so many laurels for the country at international competitionsIJ I feel the organisers (ad-hoc) didn’t support me and also feel disrespected,” the pugilist hailed as Magnificent Mary, said on Tuesday.

“Just imagine, if they are doing this to me, what will happen to the talented juniors who are coming through the system,” she questioned.

But given that she is a fighter throughout her life, she is ready for the test ahead. “After the postponement I was disturbed mentally. But now I am back to my normal self. I am training with much more focus and concentration,” the london Olympics bronze medalist, who will again be pitted against Pinki said.

“Competition has always been there and it is good. But I will give a reply to these (competition talks) during trials and I will prove a point, again,” the Manipuri thundered in a message which may be enough for Pinki to be on alert!

The Central Police Force (CRPF) will organize a half-marathon ‘CRPF Half Marathon-Run for Unity’ on October 12th to commemorate the sacrifices of its martyrs and celebrate 75-year of its inception, DIG Dilip Trivedi announced this on Tuesday at the media conference.

The event which will be supported by Athletic Federation of India (AFI) and other bodies, will be held in the Capital’s Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. The run will be promoted by sporting icons like Mary and Virender Sehwag. Mary said she loves sports and would love to support any sport in future as well.

Cricketer Sehwag remembered how he used to go inside CRPF camp for sporting activities in Jharoda Kalan in Najafgarh during his childhood.

“We used to request the officials on duty and play different sport during my childhood in the CRPF camp in Jharoda Kalan in Najafgarh. So I am ever grateful to CRPF for allowing us to use their facilities. I am proud to be associated with such an event and will be more than happy to contribute towards spreading consciousness about the soldiers who are selflessly protecting us each and every moment” Sehwag said

Elaborating further on the event, CRPF DIG Trivedi said that the cash prize for the winner of the half marathon for both men and women category have been fixed at Rs 3 lacs. The runners-up and third-placed runner will get Rs 2 lacs and Rs 1 lacs, respectively.

The registration process for the participants will start from Wednesday. Registration charges for the main run will be Rs 250. There will be a ‘Fun Race’ for the citizens.
