India's new Test captain Virat Kohli has a long way to go in his career but one should not compare the methods of Kohli' and Dhoni, feels 'The Haryana Hurricane', Kapil Dev.
Kapil comically quipped a Hindi dialouge to compare Dhoni's longevity in the game, "Baap baap hota hain (Dhoni), beta beta hota hain (Kohli)," he said before bursting into laughter. "Sometimes you lose and sometimes you win but you must be competitive and I am hoping the same from the Test team. Hopefully, Kohli will do well as a captain and so does the team in the upcoming series against the Proteas," he said on the sidelines of launch of 'Saath: 7, Cricket Mahotsav' tournament in Jaipur.
When asked about the pitch controversy where Ravi Shastri allegedly abused Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) curator Sudhir Naik for preparing a flat wicket, Dev came to his former colleague’s defence. "I completely support Shastri. The home team should always play to their comfort that suits them, not the opponents. When you go to South Africa or anywhere, you get to play on the pitches that are against you," he stated.
"Cricket is not played to please the visiting teams. Yes, we should show them good hospitality but not on pitch! We have every reason and right to have home advantage that comes from the pitch. Hence, we must prepare pitches that suits our team combination," 1983 World Cup-winning captain further added.
Dev recently took swipe at Sachin Tendulkar saying, "He didn't make full use of his talent. He was clearly ahead of his time but he did not grow as I wanted him to" before backtracking and saying his comments were misconstrued. But this time he didn't bite the bullet.
