After a not-so-good opening season where they paid the price of “bad defence”, Dabang Delhi have brought in a new coach and a sports scientist to prepare the team for the upcoming Pro-Kabaddi league (PKl) season, starting July 18.
Dabang Delhi on Monday announced that the former Indian kabaddi captain and Arjuna awardee Honnappa C Gowda would be the head coach and skills trainer for the second season. They also named Dr Sandeep Kumar, a specialist sports scientist, as teams biomechanist.
“We had a good 15-day training camp where we worked on improving team’s defence. I reckon poor defence affected the team’s performance last year. So, we have specifically worked on it,” Gowda said.
Delhi Dabang owner, Radha Kapoor said she is hoping for “bigger and better” season and asserted her confidence in Gowda’s experience expertise. “We are focussing on keepig the strategy right,” Kapoor said.
DD have also signed six new players including Nepal’s Jay Bahadur, Japan’s Yosuke Sasaki and promising Indian player Rohit Kumar.
“Since the players come from different places, they need to know each other’s game and style and make adjustments in their game. Combination is one of our focus areas,” Gowda said.
DD also announced the launch of a website and social media pages for the team, as well as a new logo.
