Mayank to join today
Right-handed batsman Mayank Agarwal, who has been named as replacement for Vijay Shankar for the ongoing World Cup, will join Team India in Leeds today, BCCI confirmed this development in a statement on Tuesday. Shankar was on Monday ruled out of the World Cup as he sustained a toe injury in the nets while batting against Jasprit Bumrah. Mayank was named as his replacement and it was approved by ICC's technical committee. Mayank made his Test debut last December against Australia, but is yet to make his bow in the 50-over format. In List-A cricket for Karnataka, the 28-year-old has played 75 games since making his debut in 2012, scoring 3,605 runs at an average of 48.71. India will play their final group stage match against Sri Lanka at Headingley, Leeds on Saturday.
Arthur disappointed by India
Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur on Tuesday said he was left disappointed that India failed to rise to the occasion and beat England in the World Cup, which would have bolstered Pakistan's chances of qualifying for the semifinals. Pakistan were banking on neighbours and arch-rivals India, and had Men in Blue continued their winning streak it would have increased the chances of Sarfaraz Ahmed's men to make the semifinals. However, set an imposing target of 338, India could only manage 306 for five to lose by 31 runs. "How they (India) played, again that's the issue which we can't control," Arthur told reports. "Obviously, I was following the game intently and was disappointed that India did not get up because that would have opened the door for us," he added. "Now all we want is to get to Friday with a real opportunity and our destiny in our own hands. I just hope New Zealand get it done for us," said Arthur.
ICC app includes Shankar in XI
In an embarrassing faux pas, the International Cricket Council (ICC) failed to realise that it had included Vijay Shankar and Kuldeep Yadav in Indias playing XI for the game against Bangladesh at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground on Tuesday. This after 10 minutes post the toss. It was later changed to bring in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dinesh Karthik. India made two changes to their team as they brought in Bhuvneshwar for Kuldeep Yadav and DK came in for Kedar Jadhav.
