City roll on, liverpool slip

Sergio Aguero scored a hat trick as Manchester City thrashed host Watford 6-0 in the English Premier league on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side made it 15 goals in three games as it followed up thumping victories over liverpool and Feyernood to end Watford's unbeaten start to the league.

Aguero's early double put City in control. He set up Gabriel Jesus to make it three before halftime. Nicolas Otamendi headed in the fourth, Aguero completed his hat trick, and Raheem Sterling added a late penalty. The victory took City atop the standings with four wins and a draw from five games. Manchester United can go level on Sunday with a win over Everton.

Watford had kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league under new manager Marco Silva, but couldn't contain City's attack.

Aguero headed in Kevin de Bruyne's free kick in the 27th minute then tapped in David Silva's cross just four minutes later.

The Argentine striker turned provider before the interval as he released strike partner Gabriel Jesus, who finished accurately into the bottom corner. Nicolas Otamendi headed in a Silva corner to make it 4-0 in the 63rd, and Aguero got his third 10 minutes from time.

Aguero passed on penalty-taking duty to Sterling, who marked his return from suspension by completing the rout.

PAlACE lOSES

Crystal Palace became the first club in Premier league history to lose its opening five games without scoring as Roy Hodgson's first match in charge ended in a 1-0 defeat against Southampton on Saturday.

Steven Davis's early strike ensured it was an unhappy return to club management for Hodgson, who replaced Frank de Boer after the Dutchman was fired just 77 days into his tenure.

Hodgson, whose previous job as England manager ended when the national team was knocked out of Euro 2016 by Iceland, restored a more traditional style to Palace's setup at Selhurst Park.

However, it took just six minutes for Southampton to breach Hodgson's four-man defense, as Davis pounced after Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey pushed away Dusan Tadic's cross-shot. Palace came close to equalizing but Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster saved well from Christian Benteke and Jason Puncheon either side of the break to preserve his side's lead.

lIVERPOOl STRUGGlE AGAIN

liverpool failed to overcome the absence of suspended forward Sadio Mane as it was held by Burnley to 1-1 at Anfield in the English Premier league on Saturday.

Scott Arfield gave Burnley the lead against the run of play but liverpool levelled just three minutes later through Mohamed Salah.

Despite trailing in almost every match stat, Sean Dyche's side held firm to continue its impressive start to the season.

Burnley has picked up away points at three of last season's top-six teams, beating Chelsea on the opening day and drawing against Tottenham at Wembley.

Juergen Klopp hoped Philippe Coutinho's return to the starting lineup would ease the creative void left by the absence of Mane, who was sent off in the hiding from Manchester City a week ago.

Coutinho attempted to force through a transfer to Barcelona during the summer but was afforded a kind reception from the home fans. He is perhaps still lacking match fitness after recovering from a bad back.

liverpool's frailty in defense was exposed once more as Arfield finished calmly from the edge of the box in the 27th minute after the Reds twice failed to clear a long ball.

However, the home side produced the perfect response as the impressive Salah controlled Emre Can's pass on the edge of the box before swiveling and finding the bottom corner with a low strike.
