Delhi Dynamos' striker Guyon Fernandez feels that lalliazuala Chhangte - scored a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win against Pune City is the main ammunition in their cavalry ahead of their away clash against Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
"He (Chhangte) is a weapon we got. He is a quick guy, who brings trouble to opponent's defence, created a lot of opportunities for us and kept the flank busy," the Curacaoan international said about Chhangte, who won the man of the match award in their season four opener. "He did a great job in the first game and hopefully he will continue doing that on Sunday too against Bengaluru. He is a treat to watch for the fans."
Bengaluru FC with the same core of players from last season have been deemed as favourites to lift the Indian super league trophy also for Sunday's game. Guyon, who feels confident after a winning start, refrained from giving the favourites tag to the Sunil Chhettri-led side.
"I have heard Bengaluru team have played together for a while now, and I understand that when a team is together for long they play together well but we had a long pre-season also. We started in September and now it's almost December. In all this time we have been together, the coach (Miguel Angel Portugal) has put his signature on the team and we understand how he expects us to play and we always try to do that," said the former Feyenoord player.
He added: "I think it's too early to pick a favourite. The result talks for themselves, there have been a lot of draws and close encounters. We haven't seen many one-sided encounters. I think teams are competitive and close to each other. But slowly teams will settle down and coaches with better philosophy and good squad will start to dominate."
Talking about the coach, Guyon said Portugal likes his team to have clean sheet first then look for goals and the 3-2 win in the first game helped them in knowing their weaknesses so that they can improve upon them. "Our coach puts a lot of attention to our defence. He always says if we don't concede, we don't lose. There was lapse in concentration after we took a 3-0 lead, which only shows we have to be more focused while defending counter attacks. We need to focus more on defending as a team to not allow space at the back to our opponents," said the striker.
Guyon does recognise that playing a game just after three days didn't give them much time to work on their weaknesses. "We played our game three days back and now we are here for the second match, that did limit our time to work on our weaknesses but we are still prepared for the game and will look to improve that in the upcoming game," he concluded.
