Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’, the National Capital Territory Cricket Association (NCTCA), led by former Test captain Bishen Singh Bedi, on Wednesday launched ‘Swachh DDCA Abhiyan’ in protest of the alleged corrupt practices in the organisation.
As a mark of protest, Bedi along with former India player Surinder Khanna, Akash lal and few others, including young cricketers, wielded brooms in front of the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium before proceeding to the IP Estate police station to file the complaint. They also lodged a complaint with the police against Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Sneh Bansal and secretary Anil Khanna, who were suspended by the DDCA’s all-powerful executive committee for alleged misappropriation and siphoning off funds to the tune of Rs1.55 crore last week. “If such a thing is happening in the Captial, you can imagine what might be happening in other states,” Bedi told mediapersons calling it just a “tip of iceberg”.
Bedi said they are also planning to meet Prime Minister and apprise him about the situation of state sports associations like DDCA. He also held Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) responsible for the turning a blind eye to the misuse of funds by the officials of the state associations. “There is no accountability of the money which they (DDCA) got from BCCI. The BCCI is also to be blamed for the mess because it is not something which is happening for the first time. “It has been happening here since the last 50 years” he said.
