BCCI seeks audio tapes of Dhoni, Srini statements

The BCCI on Wednesday moved an application before the Supreme Court seeking transcripts of audio tapes containing statements of Board President N Srinivasan and Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, recorded by the Mukul Mudgal Committee which probed allegations of IPl spot and match fixing.

The plea was mentioned before a bench headed by Justice A K Patnaik which posted the matter for hearing on April 11.

In the application BCCI has also sought the transcripts of statements by Sundar Raman, the Chief Operating Officer of IPl. The application was mentioned by Senior Advocate C S Sundaram who was appearing for BCCI. The counsel told the bench that they need the transcript to prepare themselves for the matter which is pending before the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had proposed the name of veteran cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar to head the Board for IPl 7 during pendency of the case in the apex court.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for Bihar Cricket Association, which had demanded removal of Srinivasan, had submitted in the last hearing on March 28 that no further investigation was necessary into the allegation against Srinivasan. He had said the findings of the court-appointed IPl probe committee and material relied upon by it was sufficient to remove Srinivasan from the post of BCCI President.

BCCI had also vehemently rejected allegations levelled against Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni by Salve, who accused him of "covering up" Gurunath Meiyappan.

"He has been wrongly vilified by media after false allegations were levelled against him in the court yesterday (March 27). He never made a statement that Meiyappan was just a cricket enthusiast as submitted by senior counsel Harish Salve," Sundaram, appearing for BCCI, had told the bench.

Verma to file contempt petition

Verma said on Wednesday that he would file a contempt  petition before the Supreme Court if Srinivasan attends the ICC executive board meeting in Dubai. Verma said Srinivasan cannot represent BCCI in the April 9-10 ICC meeting in the light of recent Supreme Court order. "Mr Srinavasan has attended Scheduled ICC executive board meeting in Dubai on April 9th/10th as BCCI 'Representative' despite being sidelined form Cricket Board affair following Hon'ble Supreme Courts Directive," Verma said in a statement.
