Barca sign Aguero

Outgoing Manchester City record goal scorer Sergio Agüero completed his high profile transfer to Spanish giants FC Barcelona on Monday as a free agent.

The Argentine has signed a two year contract which will keep him at Camp Nou until the end of the 2022/23 season and his buy out clause is set at 100 million euros.

He will hope to play alongside countrymen and close friend Lionel Messi, whose contract is expiring in a month’s time and has not inked a new deal yet after expressing his desire to leave the club last season.

Agüero, who is going to turn 33 on June 2, played his last game for Manchester City in Saturday’s 0-1 loss against Chelsea in the Champions League final in Porto.

The former Atletico Madrid player, leaves the Premier League club after 10 seasons and ended his spell as the foreign player with most goals in the English top flight.

In total he scored 260 goals, created 74 assists and won 15 trophies — 5 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 6 League Cups and 3 Community Shields with the Manchester club.

And on an international level, Agüero was part of the Argentine U-20 World Cup winning squads in 2005 and 2007 as well as winning an Olympic Gold in Beijing in 2008 alongside Leo Messi.  Aguero looks set to be one of several high-profile free transfers secured by the Catalans this summer, with Manchester City teammate Eric Garcia also expected to sign a long-term deal in the coming days.
