Balaji wins Fenesta Open; Prerna secures 4th straight women's title

Sriram Balaji overcame compatriot Vishnu Vardhan 7-5, 6-3 to win the Fenesta Open on Saturday and thereby earned a wild card for the 2016 Delhi Open.

Meanwhile, Prerna Bhambri pummeled Sai Samhitha Chamarthi 6-0, 6-1 to secure her fourth successive title in the women's department at the DlTA Complex.

Vishnu, who was unhappy with the balloons tied above the court and bursting, had a break point opportunity in the third game, but failed to take it as Sriram held on.

Midway through the first set, the balloons were removed. But it did little to help the Secunderabad born player, as Vishnu crumbled in the 12th game with a double fault to hand the set to Balaji.

With the opening set in the bag, the Tamil Nadu player started strongly and broke Vishnu's serve to take a 2-0 lead.  But, in the very next game the defending champion broke back to bring the set on serve.

However, all his hard work was undone as Vardhan lost his serve in the subsequent game. From there, Balaji didn't let go of the momentum and rounded off the set 6-3 to claim the title.

After the win Balaji said: "Vishnu can serve really well and he did. But in the second set his percentage came down and I took advantage of that."

Earlier, Bhambri walked past unseeded Samhitha and took the first set 6-0. Prerna had little trouble in the second set too as Samhitha won her first game of the match only in the sixth game.
