Liverpool continue its winning run in the Premier League as they beat Arsenal 3-0 in the away game at Emirates stadium in London on Saturday night to reach within two points of Chelsea (51 points), who is fourth in the league table and occupy final place for the Champions League spot next season.
After a goalless first half, Jurgen Klopp’s side burst into life after the break and opened the scoring in the 64th minute when substitute Diogo Jota, who replaced left-back Andy Robertson just three minutes ago, headed in a superb cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Mohamed Salah makes it two from a cool finish after getting better of Arsenal defender Gabriel and then Jota made it three in the 82nd minute to seal Liverpool’s third consecutive away win.
Liverpool had beaten Sheffield United and Wolves away before the international break and this three goal win will keep them in good spirits ahead of the away Champions League quarterfinal clash against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Liverpool started with the usual front three of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. But it was Jota who steals the show and made a strong case for his selection in the starting eleven against Los Blancos.
Alexander-Arnold who was dropped by Gareth Southgate for England's World Cup qualifiers also sent a reminder of his capabilities to the English manager.
Liverpool next play host to Aston Villa in the league this weekend but before that they will look to repeat the Emirates performance against Real, who is also missing players due to injuries, and advance in to the European semis to keep hopes alive of winning a silverware.
Spurs stumble
On Sunday, Spurs missed the chance to leapfrog Chelsea after playing 2-2 draw against Newcastle United at St James Park.
Joelinton puts Magpies ahead in the 28th minute but two back to back strikes from league top-scorer Harry Kane (19 goals) in span of four minutes helps Spurs take the lead at break.
They were on course of securing three points before a late strike by Arsenal loanee Joseph Willock cancels Mourinho's celebration and they were forced to share the spoils.
