Jadhav ruled out of ipl
Chennai: Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Kedar Jadhav was on Monday ruled out of the rest of the Indian Premier league (IPl), due to a hamstring injury which he suffered in the season-opener against Mumbai Indians on Saturday. Jadhav has suffered a grade two tear, coach Michael Hussey informed. "Unfortunately for us, Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. His hamstring scan didn't come back so good. I believe it is a grade two tear. He is going to be out for some time. We haven't picked a replacement yet, We will go through that process," Hussey said ahead of clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. "It is a big loss for us. He is a very good player for us, a key player for us in the middle-order," Hussey said. Jadhav returned from the dugout for a final over flourish to seal the game in favour of CSK after Dwayne Bravo set up the win.
Tamil outfit warns protests
Chennai: Opposition to IPl matches to be held here intensified on Monday with a pro-Tamil outfit agitating over the Cauvery issue threatening to hold protests outside the game venue on Tuesday. The state government, on its part, put the onus on the IPl governing body for conducting the matches. The cricket board has been apprised of "our sentiments," Fisheries minister D Jayakumar said. He said "it would be good" if the BCCI respected the sentiments and not conduct the match here but government would provide all support including security as per laid down guidelines. The state has been witnessing protests for the past one week urging the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB). The first tie in Chennai, between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is scheduled on Tuesday, but a pro-Tamil outfit warned of picketing the M A Chidambaram stadium. Political parties and outfits have demanded that Indian Premier league (IPl) matches not be held at a time when the state was witnessing widespread agitations on the vexed issue. Pro-Tamil outfit Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) warned of picketing the stadium on Tuesday if the IPl stuck to its Chennai calendar.
‘Playing 400 T20 games a milestone’
Mumbai: Kieron Pollard, who has become the first player to play 400 Twenty20 matches, on Monday said he celebrated the milestone by wearing the Mumbai Indians jersey with that number in the IPl lung opener on Saturday. Pollard has so far played 414 T20 games, in which he has scored 8,048 runs, with highest being 89 not out and has also taken 251 wickets. Pollard's fellow-West Indian all rounder Dwayne Bravo also donned the Chennai Super Kings jersey with no 400 on it in the IPl lung-opener to celebrate his own landmark of 400 wickets in T20 games. "It is just something that Bravo and I came up with. He is the first bowler in T20 cricket to take 400 wickets, and I am the only player so far to play 400 matches. At the young age of 30, being able to play 400 matches, I think that in itself is a milestone in a format (in which) none of us thought how much we would end up playing when we started our career in cricket. That was the reason (to wear those jerseys)," Pollard told reporters here.
