Srikanth to return in Hong Kong after a week's rest

New Delhi: Star India shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has pulled out of the China Open Superseries due to a niggle but will be back in action after a week's rest at the Hong Kong Super Series where he will have the chance to reach the World No 1 ranking. Srikanth, currently the second ranked men's singles player, decided to take a week's rest after aggravating a leg injury during the Senior National Badminton Championships in Nagpur. "I am pulling out of China Open (November 14-19). It is a muscle strain and doctor advised me to take rest for one week. It happened in the Nationals but because I kept playing it got a little worse. But I should be ok in a week," Srikanth told PTI on Saturday. The Badminton Association of India (BAI), however, said that it was just a coincidence that Srikanth sustained the injury at the Nationals, the dates for which were pre-fixed in consultation with all the top shuttlers of the country.

Thompson sets course record at Indian Open golf

Gurugram: Michele Thomson opened up a handy three-shot lead with a course record on the second day of the 11th Hero Women's Indian Open at the DlF Golf and Country Club here on Saturday. Thomson smashed the existing record of five-under set by Thai Kongkraphan Patchrajutar in 2015 and by Marianne Skarpnord on Friday, by three shots. Even as the focus was Thomson, India's Vani Kapoor fired a 68, including back to back birdies on the last two holes. Vani is at the joint second place with a total of 7-under. Vani, teeing off from the 10th, once again took time to find her momentum as she took the turn at one-under. On the back nine, the front stretch of the course, she bogeyed the first, but birdied four times on second, fourth, eighth and ninth.
