DUBAI: Sri lanka have become the eighth and last team to earn a direct qualification into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, following West Indies' defeat against England in the first ODI at Old Trafford. West Indies' seven-wicket defeat last night means that they cannot move ahead of Sri lanka (86 points) by September 30, the cut off mark for direct entry. The Caribbean side (78 points in the ODI Team Rankings) can still qualify for the World Cup by finishing in the top two of next year's World Cup Qualifier, an ICC release said.
COlOMBIA U-17 TEAM lAND IN DElHI FOR WC
new delhi: The Colombian team is the first to arrive in the country for next month's FIFA Under-17 World Cup when the players from the South American country touch down at the airport here in the wee hours on Thursday. The Colombian team of 21 players and the support staff have touch down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here after 1 am IST. Colombia are placed in Group A along with hosts India, Ghana and United States of America. They will play their first group match against Ghana in the tournament opener on October 6 at the JlN Stadium here.
DAHIYA TO lEAD INDIA A TEAM IN AHl
new delhi: : Goalkeeper Vikas Dahiya will lead an 18-member India 'A' men's team at the the Australian Hockey league (AHl) 2017, starting September 28 in Perth. While Dahiya has been named captain, defender Amit Rohidas will shoulder the responsibility of vice-captain. The team will feature the likes of goalkeeper Krishan B Pathak, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Gurinder Singh, Anand lakra, Baljit Singh and Vikramjit Singh in defence. Harjeet Singh. Harjeet Singh, Ashish Kumar Topno, Hardik Singh will be in midfield.
INDIA GETS BYE IN 1ST ROUND FOR DAVIS 2018
New Delhi: Top seeded India on Wednesday got a bye in the first round of next year's Davis Cup in the Asia/Oceania group I as draw was made for the competition, dubbed as World Cup of tennis. India had lost to hosts Canada 2-3 in the World Group play-offs in Edmonton to get back to Asian zone.
