Cheteshwar Pujara ploughed a lonely furrow and made a fighting 86, but Rest of India floundered against Gujarat's bowling attack and were pushed against the ropes by the newly-crowned Ranji Trophy champions in the Irani Cup match on Saturday. At stumps on day two of the five-day match, Rest were struggling at 206 for 9 wickets, chasing Gujarat's first innings total of 358, with captain Pujara's 221-minute effort being the cornerstone of his team's innings. The not out batsmen at close were number ten and eleven, Pankaj Singh (7) and Mohammed Siraj (8) and Gujarat were well-poised to take a handy first innings lead on Sunday at the Brabourne Stadium here.
Bagan beat Chennai in I league Chennai:
Haitian international Sony Norde's opportunistic strike in 77th minute helped Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan maintain pole position by beating Chennai City FC 2-1 in a fourth round encounter of the I-league football tournament, here on Saturday. It was their first away match and Sanjoy Sen's boys did well to come back from a goal behind after Brazilian Marcos Tank's 52nd minute goal put the local team in lead. However the joy was shortlived with India international Jeje lalpekhlua tapped home from close range in the 56th minute. Bagan now have 12 points from four games and along with Bengaluru FC are firm contenders for the I-league title as it has been the case for the last few seasons. Chennai City coach Robin Charles Raja rung in five changes with Karanjit Singh, former Afganistan captain Amiri, Marcos Tank, Edwin and Raju Yumnum being given starts.

Mona Meshram will replace injured Smriti Mandhana in the Indian team for the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers to be played next month in Colombo, the BCCI said on Saturday. Smriti sustained an injury while playing in the Big Bash league in Australia and Mona will replace her in the 14-member Indian squad to be led by Mithali Raj. "BCCI medical team confirms that Smriti Mandhana is ruled out of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers to be played in Colombo from Feb 7, 2017. She sustained an injury during the Big Bash league," BCCI said in a release. Agencies
