Sourabh clinches Chinese Taipei title

Taipei City: On a comeback trail after recovering from a series of injuries, Sourabh Verma on Sunday clinched the men's singles title at the Chinese Taipei Open after defeating Malaysia's Daren liew in the summit clash of the $55,000 Grand Prix tournament here. The 23-year-old from Madhya Pradesh rallied to grab the first two games and emerged victorious after his opponent liew retired in the third game due to a shoulder injury with the scoreline reading 12-10, 12-10, 3-3 in the Indian's favour. It was a case of being third time lucky as Sourabh, who had ended runners-up at Belgium and Poland international challengers, finally crossed the finishing line after spending almost a year on the sidelines due to elbow and knee injuries last year.

Jayaram made a poor start and he trailed throughout the first game and the closest he was with his opponent was when the score was 10-5 in favour of Wang. The second game was a closely-fought one and the two players were tied 9-9 but from there Jayaram nosed ahead and led till he took it 21-17. In the decider also, Jayaram trailed all through and he played the catch-up game.

Pakistan lead by 242 runs

DUBAI: Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah became the joint second-fastest bowler to take 100 wickets when he reached the milestone in his 17th test following a five-wicket haul against the West Indies, who were bowled out for 357 on the fourth day of their day-night test on Sunday. West Indies added only 42 runs to their overnight 315-6, faltering against Shah's 5-121 with the pink ball to concede a 222-run lead. Pakistan didn't enforce the follow-on and stretched their lead to 242 by reaching 20-2 in their second innings at tea. First innings triple century-maker Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq both were dismissed leg before wicket cheaply. Shah ran through the West Indies tail when he trapped Shannon Dowrich (32) lbw off a fuller delivery and then clean bowled captain Jason Holder (20) and Miguel Cummins for zero.
