Royer doesn't look easy: Vijender

new delhi: None of his four fights so far have gone the distance and Indian boxing star Vijender Singh is not keen on a longer contest either even though he does not expect this weekend's faceoff with Frenchman Matiouze Royer to be an easy one. "From whatever I have seen of him, he does not look easy. He knows how to fight a tough one. I would say he is good but then I am no less," the 30-year-old Haryana-lad told PTI from london. "I will try to finish this fight as soon as possible again. But I think it could be a little longer than the previous ones, which is also good for me. I don't mind more time in the ring but if I can finish off something early, why notIJ" he added.

Make-or-break for Platini

paris: Michel Platini appears before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Friday to appeal his six-year FIFA ban for ethics violations, with his future in football hanging on the outcome. A favourable verdict and the 60-year-old will take his place in the stands at the Stade de France for the Euro 2016 opener between hosts France and Romania on June 10. A negative verdict will mean the former Juventus star barred from entering the national stadium, his glittering career in the sport having come to an ignominious end. "This is the last avenue of appeal," Platini's lawyer Thibaud D'Ales conceded to AFP.

Get used to pink-ball Tests: White

wellington: Players and traditionalists need to accept pink-ball Tests or the five-day format will not survive, NZC chief executive David White warned on Thursday. White said there was strong enthusiasm for more day-night Tests at a meeting of the International Cricket Council board in Dubai last weekend. He said there was also a groundswell of support from fans and television broadcasters, expressing confidence that players would eventually come around. "I think the players will be very supportive going forward, (day-night Test cricket) is essential for the survival of the format, to be honest," he told Radio Sport.
