‘Players comment disrespectful’

kozhikode:  The ICC on Monday said that certain comments and actions by some of the West Indies players after clinching the WT20 were "inappropriate, disrespectful and brought the event into disrepute". After clinching the WT20 on April 4 following a thrilling last-over win over England in the finals, West Indies skipper Darren Sammy had launched a scathing attack on West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in an emotional speech at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The ICC Board, which held its second meeting this year at the ICC Headquarters in Dubai yesterday, said: "The Board considered the behavior of some of the West Indies players in the immediate aftermath of the final, and unanimously agreed that certain comments and actions were inappropriate, disrespectful and brought the event into disrepute. "The Board acknowledged an apology by the WICB but was disappointed to note that such behavior had detracted from the success of what was otherwise a magnificent tournament and final," it added.

‘Need to continue the momentum’

mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir on Monday said the team needs to continue to do what it has been doing so far in the Indian Premier league. On balance in the team, Gambhir said, "look people are saying this because we are right at the top of the table, you wouldn't have said it had we been in the middle or somewhere down. T20 format you can't say which is the most balance side because this is a format where one individual can take the game away from you." "It is still the start of the tournament, we need to keep continuing the way what we have done in the last five games, because we have realised what has happened last year, we were right at the top of the table till the 12th game, suddenly we did not qualify for the playoffs, so we have got to learn from the mistakes, hopefully the way we have started we can continue the same way, winning is a habit, its a good habit to have," he said.

‘Would have chased 200 vs RCB’

rajkot: Gujarat lions opening batsman Dwayne Smith says they would have faced no difficulty even chasing down a 200-plus target since the RCB attack lacks teeth. "Their bowling line up is not as strong and even a target of 200 runs could have been chased against them on this wicket," Smith said.
