PIl against IPl filed in HC

Bengaluru: An environmental activist here on Monday filed a PIl in the Karnataka High Court seeking a direction for water audit on Karnataka State Cricket Association stadium premises to determine the amount of usage of water on a daily basis for IPl events by BCCI and IPl chiefs. In his petition, activist Srinivasa Sharma sought a court direction to the Chairman of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) to justify the "injudicious" allocation of water to Indian Premier league (IPl) at the cost of deprivation of water to the public at large. Sharma also sought court direction to BCCI and KSCA chiefs to substantiate the steps taken under the imperative social responsibility to the public at large to justify the "massive waste" of city water for conducting IPl.

Kohli on IPl shifting row

Bengaluru: Amid the furore over holding IPl games in drought-hit Maharashtra, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli on Monday said he is awaiting the Bombay High Court verdict and hoped the two contending parties find an amicable solution. "If it is manageable, I am sure they (the respondents and petitioners) will find a way to work things around and I am sure whatever decision is taken, both sides will come to a mutual agreement and make a good decision because that will be taken in the best interest of looking at both sides of the coin," Kohli told reporters here. "I am sure the issues that have risen would be sorted out in the best possible way, and I don't want to comment more on the subject as I don't know the magnitude of the problem that occurred," he said.

‘open to shifting IPl ties out of Maha’

mohali: Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia on Monday said that the franchise is "very seriously considering" shifting its three IPl matches from drought-hit Maharashtra to some other venue. Kings XI Punjab have three matches in Maharashtra region. They are scheduled to play Delhi Daredevils on May 7 in Nagpur, followed by a match against Mumbai Indians on May 13 in Mumbai and against Rising Pune Supergiants in Pune on May 21. "We are considering it on human grounds and considering it very seriously. We are considering it internally," Wadia told 'Times Now' on the crisis that has created acute water shortage in the rural areas of drought-hit Maharashtra.

‘Hope cricketers haven't complained’

New Delhi: Noted cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle is still clueless about the reasons for his ouster from the IPl panel but hoped that players' complaint has nothing to do with his removal. "I still don't know why I am not doing the IPl. I haven't been told. I can accept the fact that people don't like me. But I genuinely hope it isn't because cricketers have complained about what I have to say," posted Bhogle on his Facebook page. Speculation is rife that some Indian cricketers have complained against Bhogle to the BCCI for his comments on air but the exact reason for his last minute sacking from the IPl commentators' panel is not yet known. There has been an outpour of support on social media for Bhogle, who has more than 3.5 million Twitter followers.

Narine boost for KKR

Kolkata: In a big boost to the Kolkata Knight Riders, the West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine is all set to join the team on Tuesday ahead of its Indian Premier league match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. "Narine is arriving tomorrow morning," a team official said. However, it would be interesting to see who the mystery spinner will replace in the playing XI, given KKR's spectacular show in their IPl opener, where they thrashed Delhi Daredevils by nine wickets. Veteran Australia chinaman bowler Brad Hogg made the best use of Narine's absence, returning with the day's best figures of three for 19 while forming a potent pair with legspinner Piyush Chawla, who claimed two for 21. last season also when Narine was mired in suspect action and was unavailable for initial few matches, it was Hogg who had replaced him in the playing XI. The Trinidadian, who has been cleared by ICC after his remedial action, had rushed back home after his father's demise.
