Second straight win for colts

Kuntan (Malaysia): India went through some anxious dying moments before eking out a close 5-4 win over hosts Malaysia and register their second consecutive win of the eighth junior men's Asia Cup hockey tournament, here on Sunday. With this win India rises to the top of the table in Pool A with two straight wins and will play China in their last encounter of the group stage on Tuesday. Malaysia drew the first blood with an opening minute field goal leaving India on the back foot in the beginning of the match. India, however, came back strongly to level the scores within 10 minutes through forward Mandeep Singh. The first half saw both the teams pressing hard until Malaysia scored again to take the lead in the 25th minute.

Kerala thrash NEUFC 4-1 in ISl

Guwahati: English striker Chris Dagnall scored twice as Kerala Blasters exposed NorthEast United's defensive frailties to notch up a 4-1 thumping win in their Indian Super league football match here on Sunday. Dagnall struck inside 35 seconds into the match to score the fastest goal of the ISl and then found the target again in the 76th minute in front of the disbelieving 27,000 strong Northeast fans at the Indira Gandhi Stadium. Cavin lobo (21st) and Antonio German (75th) scored the other goals for Kerala while Nicolas Velez pulled one back for NorthEast in the added injury time (90+1). Kerala, who were at the bottom of the eight-team league table before Sunday's match, jumped one place to seventh by virtue of the win with 11 points to their kitty from 10 matches while Northeast remained on fifth with 13 points from 10 games.

England-France friendly to go ahead

Paris: The football friendly between England and France in london will go ahead as planned on Tuesday, despite major concerns over safety following the deadly attacks in Paris. The match was confirmed by the French and English federations on Saturday after they consulted with the British government. "We will use the opportunity to pay our respects to all affected, and also to express our solidarity with the people of France," FA chairman Greg Dyke said. FFF president Noel le Graet said France was ready, although it appeared the players may not have been consulted. "I didn't ask the players the question: They're playing," le Graet told RTl radio station.

Bach confident in Rio security

london: IOC President Thomas Bach expressed confidence on Sunday in the ability of Brazilian authorities to protect next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris. With the games nine months away, the bomb and gun attacks in the French capital that left at least 129 people dead and over 350 wounded will raise concerns over the safety of athletes and fans at the Olympics. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for Friday's attacks. "We have confidence in the Brazilian authorities and in the international cooperation of their security agencies," Bach said in a telephone interview. "I'm sure all these international services will make all efforts to protect the Olympic Games from these kinds of terrorist attacks."

Zimbabwe beat B’desh to equalise

Dhaka: Zimbabwe salvaged some pride by securing a three-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second and final T20 on Sunday. Neville Madziva was instrumental in avoiding the embarrassing tour sweep as he hammered the required 18 runs in the last over to level the two-match T20 series before taking two wickets. Bangladesh was restricted to a moderate 135-9 but fought back well to keep the game tight until the Madziva blitz helped the touring side get over the line with a ball to spare. Madziva clattered three fours and two sixes.
