Rs11.5B to India's GDP from ipl

new delhi: IPl 2015 made a contribution of Rs11.5 billion ($182 million) to India's GDP, a survey conducted by top financial auditing firm KPMG on behalf of the BCCI has said. The total economic output associated with IPl matches in India for 2015 is estimated at Rs26.5 billion ($418 million). This is the aggregate value of all transactions that took place as a direct, indirect or induced effect of the economic activity of the 2015 matches, the BCCI said. According to the survey, the 2015 season saw around 20 per cent of attendees visiting from cities other than the host city. Also notable were international visitors primarily from the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. The study also highlighted the impact on the country beyond economic that are generally measurable in financial terms.

nZ's tour match called off

sydney: New Zealand's tour match against the Cricket Australia XI was abandoned on Friday on concerns over the state of the pitch in Sydney. Stumps were drawn by the umpires during the lunch interval on day two of the three-day game at Blacktown after the CA XI declared their first innings at 503 for one. The Black Caps had been due to bat in reply in their final warm-up ahead of the first Test against Australia, starting in Brisbane on November 5.

The surprise abandonment seriously disrupts New Zealand's preparations for the Test series opener as they were looking to gain valuable batting practice with a near full-strength lineup.

The Black Caps did not bowl any of their pace bowlers in the opening session on day two.

Burns, Khawaja in Aus squad

sydney: Batsmen Joe Burns and Usman Khawaja were on Friday recalled by Australia for next week's first cricket Test against New Zealand in Brisbane. Burns was selected ahead of Cameron Bancroft to open the batting alongside David Warner, while Khawaja was expected to fill the vacant No.3 position in a 12-man squad. Burns and Khawaja, who were included in the Test squad for this month's postponed Tour of Bangladesh, both scored centuries for a Cricket Australia XI in last weekend's tour match against New Zealand in Canberra. Khawaja has not played for Australia since the 2013 Ashes series, while Burns played two Tests against India last southern summer. Squad: David Warner, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith (captain), Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Nathan lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle.

England to rest pacer Wood

sharjah: England are to rest paceman Mark Wood for the third and final Test against Pakistan in Sharjah starting from Sunday as he recovers from an injured ankle. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Friday that he would miss the final Test, saying that he needed to rest. Reports suggested Wood would undergo surgery on the problem at some point, meaning he would face a lengthy layoff. Wood is likely to be replaced by Yorkshire seamer liam Plunkett although allrounder Chris Jordan could also be in the picture. Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel — who bowls left-arm spin — could also come into contention in case the England team management feel the Sharjah wicket will help spinners.

CA conducted its Annual General Meeting here on Thursday in which Peever was elected, it said in a statement. The 58-year-old is the retired managing director of business firm Rio Tinto Australia.
