Eng batsman Trott retires from international cricket

london: England batsman Jonathan Trott announced his retirement from international cricket. Trott struggled on his return to the Test arena during England’s 1-1 drawn series with he West Indies in the Caribbean concluded on Sunday, managing just 72 runs in six innings including three ducks. “This was a tough decision to make but I don’t feel my game is at the level you need to be at to play for England,” said Trott on Monday in an ECB statement. “I was honoured to be given the opportunity to come back and play international cricket again and I’m disappointed it didn’t work out. “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped me and given me the chance to represent England and to thank supporters for all their backing over the years. “I also want to wish the lads all the very best for what will be an incredibly exciting summer.” The 34-year-old Trott, who intends to continue his county career with Warwickshire, added: “I’ve had incredible highs and some real lows in an England shirt but wouldn’t change a thing. “I look forward to continuing my career at Warwickshire and hopefully helping us win more silverware.” The West Indies series saw Trott recalled by England for the first time since his premature exit from the 2013/14 Ashes series in Australia following the first Test in Brisbane with what team officials later said was “situational anxiety”.

India to tour Bangladesh in June for one test, three ODIs

NEW DElHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the national team will tour Bangladesh next month to play their first Test in more than five years. The tour will start with the test at Fatullah from June 10-14, followed by three one-day internationals at Mirpur on June 18, 21, and 24. There is a provision for reserve days for the ODIs since the series will be during the monsoon season. India won a three-match ODI series 2-0 in Bangladesh last year.

Bangladesh determined not to let Pakistan off hook

DHAKA:  Bangladesh has enjoyed the novelty of bossing the tour by Pakistan. So, the hosts are as determined to hold sway in the tour finale as Pakistan is of mending hurt pride in the second cricket test starting on Wednesday. The tour has become a watershed moment in Bangladesh cricket. The one-day internationals were swept for the first time, the lone Twenty20 won, too, and the first Test in Khulna last week was drawn, but considered a victory by Bangladesh after a huge first-innings deficit was rubbed out by a record-setting batting performance. Pakistan failed to beat Bangladesh in a Test for the first time, and the home side senses a chance to do even better on a similar Mirpur pitch. “Keeping them winless throughout the series is the primary target,” Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim said.
