shami ruled out of IPl-8
New Delhi: The BCCI on Thursday officially confirmed that India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier league due to a knee injury sustained during the ICC Cricket World Cup last month. “The IPl Technical Committee has approved a replacement for Mohammed Shami in the Delhi Daredevils team. Shami has been ruled out of the ongoing Pepsi IPl season due to a knee injury. The Delhi Daredevils therefore have the option of picking a replacement player,” an IPl media release stated. There is very little possibility of Shami returning for India’s next away assignment in Bangladesh but he will certainly be training his eyes on India’s full tour of Sri lanka scheduled in July-August.
mumbai lose anderson too
New Delhi: Adding to their miseries, Corey Anderson has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPl season due to a fractured finger on his left hand. He will return to New Zealand for his recovery process. Earlier Mumbai, who aren’t having the greatest of runs on the field either, had lost Josh Hazlewood (opting out after World Cup) and Aaron Finch (hamstring injury). Anderson is the second New Zealand player to miss the IPl due to injury after Adam Milne who was ruled out on Wednesday.
learning to be a finisher: faf
Bengaluru: South African batsman Faf du Plesis says he is getting used to the role of a “finisher” for his Indian Premier league (IPl) side Chennai Super Kings. Asked about his new role after their game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday which CSK won by 27 runs, du Plesis said he is still “learning”. Du Plessis scored a quick-fire 33 runs to propel his team to a healthy 181 for eight. “I am learning. It is a new thing for me and something that I want to improve on. My whole life I have batted higher up the order and it is good for my game that I have been given an opportunity to learn how to finish games,” du Plesis was quoted as saying by iplt20.com on Thursday.
csk’s valuation on agenda
New Delhi: The BCCI’s Working Committee during its meeting in Kolkata on April 26 will discuss about Chennai Super Kings being valued at a meagre `5 lakh by its owners, which has been objected by some IPl Governing Council members. It is learnt that Chennai Super Kings Private limited after its de-merger from its parent company India Cements have been valued at `5 lakh as per documents that were handed over to IPl Governing Council. Subsequently, IPl COO Sundar Raman was asked a few questions by a few GC members about the “weird valuation” of the de-merger as they were paying an annual franchise fee of `40 crore and also spent annually around `60 plus crore as players’ remuneration.
‘getting ab early was key’
Bengaluru: CSK’s Suresh Raina said dismissing A B de Villiers early proved to be the decisive turning point in his side’s 27-run victory over RCB on Wednesday. “Definitely. I think when he and Virat were batting, I thought they can finish the game, but when he (de Villiers) got out we thought we can win, but at the same time we were wary of Virat who had the ability to finish the game on his own,” he said. Raina expressed surprise over Chris Gayle’s omission and gave credit to Ashish Nehra. PNS/Agencies
