Finch ruled out of IPl-8

Melbourne: Australia T20 skipper Aaron Finch has been ruled out of remainder of the Indian Premier league due to a hamstring injury that he suffered while batting for Mumbai Indians last week. Finch, who was assisted from the field after he was yelling in pain during Mumbai’s match against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad, successfully underwent surgery on his left hamstring and is expected to be out for 12 weeks. Cricket Australia Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “After returning to Australia injured from the IPl, Aaron had scans that confirmed a high grade hamstring injury. As such, Aaron was assessed by a surgeon who felt that he would have a better outcome with surgery. “Aaron subsequently had surgery yesterday that has gone well. Aaron will now commence his rehabilitation and we expect that rehabilitation to take up to 12 weeks.” The 28-year-old had tweeted on Tuesday night, explaining that he was hospitalised for one night but appearing optimistic that the surgery went well. Finch has played only three matches this season for Mumbai. He scored five, eight and 10 not out before hurting his hamstring while taking a single during a match at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Arvind replaces Milne in RCB

New Delhi: Karnataka left-arm pacer Sreenath Arvind has replaced injured Adam Milne in the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad for the ongoing Indian Premier league. The IPl Technical Committee approved the replacement after the New Zealand pacer was ruled out of season 8 due to a foot injury that the medium-pacer picked during the 50-over World Cup. The Technical Committee of the IPl consists of Anurag Thakur (Hony. Secretary, BCCI), Sourav Dasgupta, Subir Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly and Ravi Shastri. This will be Arvind’s second stint with RCB. The paceman was part of the RCB squad in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the competition. He was the highest wicket-taker for the Vijay Mallya-owned side in the 2011 edition, with 21 wickets from 13 games.

Super Over doesn’t count

Mumbai: Kings XI Punjab edged past table toppers Rajasthan Royals in a thrilling “Super Over” match in their Indian Premier league clash at Ahmedabad on Tuesday’s night, but the individual displays in the tie-break don’t count for overall statistics. A senior statistician with the BCCI said that neither individual performances nor team scores in these one-over eliminators get added to the overall statistics of the tournament.  “We just mention that Kings XI beat Rajasthan Royals in the Super Over. The team scores are not added to the net run-rate of the competing teams. The individual performances also do not get added up,” he explained. On Tuesday, Royals scored 191 for 6 and Kings XI, in replay, made an identical score in 20 overs, leading to the one-over eliminator to decide the winner of the contest. In the “Super Over” tie-break, Kings XI scored 15 for 2 and then took two of their rivals’ wickets in four legal deliveries conceding only six runs to bring to an end the thrilling contest and also inflict on Royals their first defeat in six games.
