KP released from IPl to reignite England career

london: Kevin Pietersen secured a release from his contract with IPl side Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday in a bid to reignite his England career. The agreement with the Sunrisers will see Pietersen miss the entire first phase of the IPl, enabling him to play for an English county side. The batsman will be recalled if the Sunrisers reach the knockout stages from May 19-24. The new chief of English cricket said recently that Pietersen could be recalled if he performs well in county cricket. “My focus is now very much on the upcoming season in England, and I’m absolutely determined to score as many runs as possible,” Pietersen said in a statement on his official website. “I’ve never made any secret of my overwhelming desire to once again represent England, and I’m going to do everything in my power to earn a recall to the international set-up.” Surrey deregistered Pietersen six months ago after a summer in which he played only T20 cricket, but has been heavily linked with re-signing England’s top run-scorer in all formats.

Sehwag powers Delhi to easy win over J&K

New Delhi: A vintage Virender Sehwag revived old memories with a dazzling 85 to power Delhi to a 26-run win over Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in a North Zone leg match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Twenty20 cricket tournament, here on Tuesday.

Coming to bat at number three, Sehwag sent the J&K bowlers for a leatherhunt to score his runs off just 50 balls with the help of seven boundaries and five sixes and help Delhi pile up a competitive 159 runs for the loss of six wickets at the Feroze Shah Kotla ground. Meanwhile, Punjab scored a convincing 7-wicket win over Haryana while Himachal Pradesh defeated Services by six wickets.

Brief Scores: Delhi: 159/6 in 20 overs (Virender Sehwag 85; Umar Nazir Mir 2/19) beat J&K: 133/7 in 20 overs (Adil Rashid 47, Ian Dev Singh 36; Pawan Negi 2/30, Vikas Tokas 2/31) by 26 runs.
