Pak chief selectors question ICC for chucking calls
Karachi: Former Test spinners and chief selectors Iqbal Qasim and Salahuddin Ahmed have questioned the current protocol of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for bowlers and said it was destroying the careers and livelihoods of players. The 61-year old Iqbal Qasim, who played 50 Tests as a left arm-spinner, felt it was time for the ICC cricket committee to review the whole protocol to test our bowlers with suspected bowling actions and weigh its repercussions and benefits. "This new system to single out bowlers with suspected actions is affecting careers and livelihoods of players. A verdict should only be given on a player after independent tests at two different accredited testing centers," Qasim, who has twice remained chief selector, said.
Oz submit provisional squad for WC, do not release names
Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday released the provisional squads of 12 teams for the next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. However co-hosts Australia and minnows Ireland have decided against releasing the names of the players in the provisional list although they have submitted the list of 30-members to the parent body within the stipulated deadline. Since its inception in 1975 with the Prudential Cup, it will be the first edition which won’t feature either among Javed Miandad (‘75, ‘79, ‘83, ‘87, ‘92, ‘96) or Sachin Tendulkar (‘92, ‘96, ‘99, ‘03, ‘07, ‘11), who have played six editions each.
Sehwag to auction his sweater for underprivileged
New Delhi: Virender Sehwag will donate blankets and auction his sweater as part of his association with Daryadili, an endeavour to support the underprivileged battling cold weather in the country. Sehwag has joined hands with a radio station and NGO Goonj for the fourth edition of Daryadili. The cricketer, who was recently left out of the 30-member squad of probables for the 2015 ODI World Cup, is happy to “utilise” his time for a good cause. "We look after people in our own house, but not those who are on the road... So, I thought I should get involved in such an initiative," he said. "On behalf of my Sehwag International School, we will give at least 100 blankets and do as much as we can," said Sehwag. He also promised to give away one of his sweaters for auction. "The auction isn’t for money. The one who gives maximum number of clothes will get the sweater," he said.
