Rashid wins second title

Chiangmai: Rising Indian golfer Rashid Khan lifted his second title of the year, carding a brilliant four-under 68 in the final round to clinch the Chiangmai Golf Classic at the Alpine Golf Resort on Sunday. Rashid, who lifted the SAIl-SBI Open earlier this year for his maiden Asian Tour win, had rounds of 68, 69, 66 and 68 to total 17-under 271 and finish one shot ahead of veteran Jyoti Randhawa (68-65-70-69) and Thailand's Thanyakon Khrongpha (69-65-67-71), who were both at 16-under 272. This is the most by any country this season on Asian Tour in 2014.

lahiri 2nd at Euro Qualifying

Barcelona: Indian golfer Anirban lahiri got off to a brilliant start at the European Tour's six-round Qualifying School Final Stage with a flawless five-under 65 at the par-70 Purple course and was placed second overall among the 156 starters. The other Indian challenger in the field, SSP Chowrasia, carded one-over 71 at the same layout and he was lying tied 76th. Denmark's Christian Gloet is in his first season of professional golf. The 24-year-old, who plied his trade on the Nordic Golf league this season, carded five birdies, an eagle and just a single dropped shot to finish six better than the par of 70 on the easier Tour Course. He was a shot clear of world number 74 lahiri.

Greece suspends Ranieri

Athens: Greece's Football Association has suspended national team coach Claudio Ranieri indefinitely after losing 1-0 at home to the Faeroe Islands in a European Championship qualifier. An association statement issued at midnight Saturday said youth coach Costas Tsanas had been named interim manager for a friendly on Tuesday against Serbia on the island of Crete. The statement gave no reason why Ranieri was suspended and not fired, though the action was widely seen as the result of an unresolved contract termination dispute. Ranieri, 63, a former coach at Chelsea and leading Italian clubs, took over from national team coach Fernando Santos after Greece reached the second round of the World Cup in Brazil.

london: Rory McIlroy has won the European Tour's Race to Dubai for the second time in three years. The 25-year-old Northern Irishman is more than 2.7 million euros ($3.4 million) ahead of Henrik Stenson. The Swede, who was European No. 1 a year ago, moved second on the money list by coming third in the Turkish Airlines Open on Sunday. Phuket (Thailand): India's Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu held his own to defeat Hong Kong's Yip Tsz Fung in an exciting three-game affair to win gold in the men's squash event at the Asian Beach Games, which is currently taking place at Phuket in Thailand. Harinder, ranked 60 in the world, was 23 rungs above Fung but the contest was more even than the rankings suggested. Firstly, I was honoured when IOA selected me to carry the Indian flag at the opening ceremony and now I am going home with a gold medal.

UEFA could leave FIFA

Berlin: UEFA would have to consider leaving FIFA if world football's governing body does not publish in full American attorney Michael Garcia's report into bidding for the 2018 and 2022 WC’s, says German Football league President Reinhard Rauball. Rauball tells Kicker magazine he also wants FIFA to divulge what wasn't evaluated in Garcia's report, and "whether it was justified to leave these things out. That has to be made public. It's the only way FIFA can restore some of its lost credibility."
