Dalmiya-ganguly 2

Kolkata: Jagmohan Dalmiya, re-elected unopposed as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal for yet another term, ohoped to again “team up” with newly-elected joint secretary Sourav Ganguly. “I think it’s a very good development as when I was the BCCI president, he was the captain (of Indian cricket team). As a team we’ve worked very well. I feel this team will work again,” Dalmiya told reporters after being re-elected president in its 83rd annual general meeting here. At the time of AGM when Ganguly was being elected joint-secretary in absentia succeeding Sujan Mukherjee, the cricketer-turned-commentator was seen handing over the first Test cap to debutant medium pacer Pankaj Singh in Southampton, England. To many insiders it was ‘unprecedented’ in CAB’s history that a joint-secretary was not part of the annual meeting but Dalmiya said the retired left-handed batsman would do justice to his new role as cricket administrator. “He has told us that he would be able to devote time (to CAB). Be it cricket captaincy or work related to administration he has done exceedingly well in the past, we’re hopeful he would manage well,” Dalmiya said.

Rooney scores two in Man U win

Denver: Wayne Rooney scored twice and Juan Mata added another goal to lift Manchester United to a 3-2 friendly victory over AS Roma on Saturday. The triumph continued the winning start to new manager louis van Gaal’s tenure, which opened with a 7-0 trouncing of the los Angeles Galaxy in the opening match of United’s North American pre-season tour on Wednesday. The going was tougher against the Serie A side, but while Roma was in control early in the first half it was Rooney who opened the scoring in the 36th minute, taking a pass from Mata 25 yards out, turning and firing into the top corner of the net. Two minutes later, Rooney set up Mata for a fine second goal, and Rooney made it 3-0 with a penalty in first-half stoppage time after Roma newcomer Urby Emanuelson had upended Danny Welbeck. Miralem Pjanic pulled one back for Roma in spectacular style in the 75th, unleashing a lob from his own half that arched over helpless United substitute keeper Ben Amos.

Fearless India impresses lee

Mumbai: Former Australian speedster Brett lee on Sunday said he was impressed with the fearless attitude of the Indian youngsters in the ongoing Test series against England. “I have been really impressed with the new Indian side. They are playing fearless cricket and that happens only when you get new people into the team. It is not that they been in the team for a while and they are worried about not performing. “You get these young guys in and they just don’t care. They just go out there and think I am gonna give my best shot, hundred per cent. They are doing so well. I think India have found a great bunch of people now,” lee told PTI at the Brett lee Mewsic India foundation event. The 37-year-old former pacer said he has been particularly impressed with the performance of lanky Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who dished out a brilliant spell at the lord’s to win the second cricket Test match for India. “If you get seven wickets at lords, you are doing a pretty good job. I have been really impressed. He is a great guy. First and foremost he is a wonderful fellow. He has got good pace, a good height and he is using that bouncer so well,” lee said. “(Skipper Mahendra Singh) Dhoni knew on the back of his mind that was the wicket to pitch short on and try and ruffle up things for the batsmen,” he said.
