Kambli suffers heart attack

Mumbai: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, famous for his world-record 664-run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar in a school match in 1988, was on Friday admitted to a hospital here, apparently after suffering a heart attack. Kambli has been admitted to the cardiac ICU of the lilavati hospital in suburban Bandra, and is undergoing treatment, hospital sources said. Further details are awaited but reports have stated that he was driving when he felt discomfort in his chest. After being rushed to hospital by a traffic police officer, his condition is now said to be stable. Kambli, an elegant left-hander in his playing days, had undergone angioplasty on two of his blocked arteries in July last year.

MP Association official booked

Indore: Former Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) Joint Secretary Alpesh Shah has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female cricketer here, police said on Friday. Tukoganj police on Thursday registered a case against Shah under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) on a complaint filed by her, they said. The victim went to the police station with her father and grandfather and gave a statement about the episode, they said, adding further investigation in the matter was on. Just before filing of the case, Shah stepped down from his post on Thursday. He is also convener of MPCA’s Selection Committee for under-19 women’s team. Shah has been accused of sexually harassing the cricketer when she was called for seeking his ‘special blessings’ at Holkar Stadium’s administrative block office here on the evening of September 23, police said.

lehmann wants more aggression

Sydney: Coach Darren lehmann on Friday said there will be no let-up as Australia continues its aggressive in-your-face cricket against England in the current Ashes Test series. “We want to play within the rules but we will play aggressive, in-your-face cricket which was a trademark of those eras,” lehmann said, writing in News limited newspapers. “When Australian teams are performing at their best they are playing right on the edge as we were in Brisbane. That is the Aussie way. I loved the whole theatre around Mitchell Johnson’sdisplay at the Gabba right down to the fact that his new moustache brought back all those rich memories of the 1970s with the stars and their handlebar mo’s (moustaches),” lehmann wrote.

waugh differs with warner

Sydney: Former Australia captain Steve Waugh has said David Warner’s comments about England batsman Jonathan Trott were “out of order” and had crossed the line. Waugh, who was regarded as a hard-bitten and competitive Test captain, was critical of Warner’s comments made at a post-stumps media conference during the Brisbane Test, which Australia won by 381 runs. “I think Dave Warner’s comments were out of order. I don’t believe you should comment on someone else personally on the opposition,” Waugh said on the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust website. “He can make a generic comment, but I think when you get personal like that, you cross the line on how players treat each other, and the respect they should have. So I didn’t agree with Dave’s comments, having said that, he probably did smell a bit of fear in the England opposition players. Unfortunately for Jonathan Trott, it was a personal issue, and you don’t want to keep going on about that.
