Karachi: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday appointed an interim management committee to take control of the Pakistan Cricket Board. The PM announced the necessary amendments in the PCB Constitution to effect its supersession by the interim committee. The interim committee comprises acting chief Najam Sethi, former chairman Shaharyar Khan, former captain Zaheer Abbas, ex-player Haroon Rasheed and former national team manager Naveed Cheema. The interim committee has been directed to elect one of its members as Chairman and this post went to Najam Sethi who was already working as caretaker chairman of the Board since late July.

BCCI to oppose 2 balls rule

Mumbai: The Indian Cricket Board would again oppose the experimental rule of using two new white balls from either end of the ground in ODIs during the International Cricket Council's meeting in January next year, according to a BCCI official. "It (the rule) is still under trial. In September, India, Sri lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh had opposed it. There will be a meeting (of ICC) in January, where BCCI will again oppose it," the source said. BCCI's reservations regarding the use of two new balls is said to be due to its concern that India's spin-heavy attack will be rendered ineffective by this new ODI rule. The Indian Board had expressed its reservation on the rule in September at the ICC Chief Executives meeting.

Score a big ton: gavaskar to SRT

New Delhi: Former captain Sunil Gavaskar on Tuesday said he wants Sachin Tendulkar to end his illustrious Test career with a bang by scoring a big ton in his last match in Mumbai next month. Tendulkar has announced that he will end his 24-year-long international career after playing in his 200th Test at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium against the West Indies starting on November 14. "Sachin made his first class debut at Wankhede Stadium and since he is playing his last Test there, his cricketing career will come a complete circle. Everybody is hoping that he would score a hundred in his last Test. But what about scoring a double or a triple hundredIJ That would be the real icing on the cake," Gavaskar said.

Munde appeals against rejection

Mumbai: BJP leader Gopinath Munde filed an appeal against the rejection of his candidature for the contest to select the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association at its biennial election scheduled for Oct. 18. The decision on Munde's appeal against the verdict by the election officer — who on Saturday rejected his application on the basis of the residential criteria — is to be taken up on Wednesday, sources said. "His application was rejected as the address on his electoral registration was Beed. He can appeal before Oct. 15," MCA joint secretary Nitin Dalal had said after Munde's candidature had been turned down. According to MCA rules, only a Mumbai resident can become a governing member of the cricketing body.
