Dalmiya hails India’s hattrick

Kolkata: BCCI interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday congratulated Team India for sealing the ODI series in Zimbabwe. Terming it a hattrick of triumphs, Dalmiya said in a statement: “I congratulate the Indian cricket team for yet another series victory abroad.” “The fact that they are putting up a good show consistently on foreign soil is a matter of gratification. More so since, it is a sort of hat-trick in less than a couple of month’s time,” Dalmiya added. The Virat Kohli-led India cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe on Sunday to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. It was India’s third successive triumph in one month having won the ICC Champions Trophy and then the Tri-Nation Series in the West Indies also involving Sri lanka.

Kohli needs to tone down: Azhar

New Delhi: Former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin considers Virat Kohli as the future captain of India but said the young cricketer needs to tone down his aggression and behave like a leader. “He has to tone down. You cannot be like that always. I know he is very good player. He has a big reputation. He is considered as the future captain and he has to behave like a captain,” Azharuddin told reporters here. Kohli, who successfully captained India to a 3-0 unassailable lead against Zimbabwe in the ongoing ODI series, has been in news on and off for his dose of aggression and on-field spats. Recently, Kohli, miffed at being given out to a controversial catch during the second ODI against Zimbabwe, ended up arguing aggressively with on-field officials even after the third umpire ruled against him. “Kohli’s nature is different, I understand that but then everybody looks upto him. Being aggressive is good but he has to be aggressive from inside, showing it on the outside won’t help. If he tones down a little bit it will be good for him,” he said.

The day belonged to 18-year-old UP spinner Yadav who ran through the lankan middle-order despite stiff resistance from their No 3 batsman Kavindu Kulasekara who struck a gutsy 84. 3 caught over Indian bookie link

london: The anti-corruption officers of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) ejected three spectators from a domestic T20 match over suspected links with bookies in India. Those thrown out of Worcestershire’s Friends life T20 match against Somerset at New Road on Saturday were overheard commentating on mobile phones on the match which was being televised by Sky. They are believed to have been exploiting the time delay between live action and television broadcast in India to manipulate the illegal betting market on the sub-continent, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Price retires

Harare: Zimbabwean left-arm spinner Ray Price, part of the team for the ongoing ODIs against India, has decided to call it quits from international cricket in the middle of the five-match series after failing to get a single game so far. The 37-year-old will not travel with the team for the remaining two ODIs of the series, which Zimbabwe has already conceded 0-3 to India. “I was going to wait until my contract expired to call it a day but, yes, I’ve decided to retire from international cricket,” Price told ESPNcricinfo. “I won’t be going with the guys to Bulawayo. I’m retired.”
